Condolences
Dear Aunt Bev and Cousins Michael, Gerry, Karen, Janine, Tim, and families: We were very saddened to hear of Uncle Mick's passing. Our last meeting with your family was the chance encounter at a park in Vancouver where you were having a picnic. That's only one of many, many fond memories of Uncle Mick. In our family, the little stories of days gone by are repeated over and over with fondness. The memory of Uncle Mick singing "Eating Goober Peas" when Wayne and I were at the farm in Killarney usually arises at pea picking time wherever I am. There is often a reference to Uncle Mickey's "shortcuts" when we're driving around in Winnipeg. Recalling his enthusiasm when he gave a slide show of his European travels with Aunt Bev is another favourite memory, along with the warm and generous hospitality that accompanied it. He was truly a great guy, and although we were not in touch as often lately, he will always be in our hearts. Our sincere condolences to all. With love, Joanne and Michael Donnelly and family
Dear Aunt Bev and family: I am deeply saddened by the loss of Uncle Mick and send you my heart felt condolences. I still recall as a young child how excited I was when Uncle Mick came into Winnipeg from his travels out west and still have a piece of gold (fools gold) he gave to me that I treasured. I hope that you will stay strong and with the love and support of family you will smile and shine from all of the memories. Blessings!
Memories of Mr. Fijal are running through my mind like his beloved Super-8 movies we used to watch with such anticipation and joy.
(Remember the one of the backyard tree planting, with each Fijal kid gently lowered into the newly dug hole?)
I remember his kindness, gentle teasing humour and that unmistakable chuckle. Gatherings at the Fijals were always warm and wonderful, especially at Christmas when the neighbours got together. As that kid from two doors down, I am so grateful to have known Mr. Fijal. His generous spirit lives on in all of you.
