Obituary of Moira Spence Thomson

Moira Thomson, beloved wife of Tetsuro Iwasa, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the age of 85 years.
Moira was born in Broughty Ferry, Scotland on April 7th, 1937. She moved to Calgary, AB, from Scotland in 1973, and married Tetsuro soon after.
Moira completed her education in or degree in nursing and public health in Scotland. In Calgary, she was an assistant librarian with the University of Calgary, and then she obtained a bachelor’s degree with distinction in fine arts at the University.
In Scotland, she was a life member of the National Trust of Scotland and Historic Scotland. She was also a member of the Mary Queen of Scots Society. In Calgary, she would attend many exhibitions, and events held by various galleries.
Moira always enjoyed reading and attending theatre plays, and concerts. She also enjoyed hiking in the mountains and walking along the beaches in Scotland. She will be remembered for sending postcards, letters, birthday gifts, sewing fabrics, and most of all, her love for Scotland, as stated by one of her friends.
Moira is survived by her husband Tetsuro, her sister Shona Chalmers, and her family residing on Vancouver Island. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert E. Thomson, and Mary Spence Thomson (nee Parker).
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Tuesday, January 17, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
