Obituary of Elena Tedolinda Vaccaro

With great sadness we announce that our beloved sister, Elena Vaccaro of Calgary, AB passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 23, 2022 at the age of 60 years.

Born and raised in Calgary, AB, Elena went to school at St. Matthew Elementary and Junior High, and then to Our Lady of the Rockies (Bishop Grandin) High School.  Admittedly, Elena tried her best to not spend a lot of time at school, however, she did go back to school and graduated from MRC, and then went on to the U of C and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in humanities.

Elena had various jobs throughout her years, lastly working as a Shift Supervisor for the City of Calgary Call Centre. Elena’s many talents included singing, she had a great voice, and ‘air-banding’ was her forte, always singing the lead vocals.  One year for Christmas Elena received a ukulele; within a week she had taught herself how to play it.   

Elena loved all her dogs; Lady, Ringo, Chico, Duke, Fritz, and her baby, the love of her life, Isabella Rossellini (Izzy). In all, she loved all her family and friends.  She was always open to hearing out your problems and offering to help out in anyway where she could.

Elena is survived by her brothers, Manuel and Pasqualino (Maria) Vaccaro; and her nieces, Victoria and Valentina Vaccaro. She is also survived by her cousins, Mary Kawalauskas and her family, and Tony Novello and his family, as well as many more cousins and dear friends. Elena was predeceased by her loving parents, Nicola (2020) and Rosaria Orestina Vaccaro (2015). 

 A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 – 90th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, January 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.  Reception to follow. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
