Obituary of Caroline Joan Ridders
Lachine, Quebec - September 9, 1962
Okotoks, Alberta - February 28, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Caroline “Carol” Joan Ridders on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the age of 60.
Carol grew up in Montreal and moved to Calgary in 1986, where she eventually established her own bookkeeping company “Cheque Mate Bookkeeping Services” in 2000.
Carol was a vibrant, larger-than-life personality. She loved music and dance. Carol loved the outdoors and working in her garden, calling herself an “earth person”. Carol passionately loved riding on the back of a motorcycle with her husband Rob. She loved elephants and travelled to Thailand and Africa to enjoy them in person.
Carol faced her illness with incredible strength, dignity, and grace. She kept a gratitude journal and throughout her journey was able to find something to be grateful for every day. Carol was truly an inspiration to all of those who were privileged to share her journey with her.
She was a deeply loving, giving, and caring person, always wanting the best for others.
Carol will be remembered by her loving husband Rob Akins, brother Wim (Wendy), sister Terri Florkiewicz (Dennis), nephew Steven Ridders (Shannon), nieces, Samantha Ridders (Francis), Courtney Lamothe, and Nadine Florkiewicz; along with Trevor Keith (Maureen) and Alyc Keith; and extended family. She will be greatly missed by her beloved Jan, Kathleen, and Suzanne; and other cherished friends. Carol was predeceased by her parents, Jacobus and Wilhelmina; and her brother John.
The Family would like to thank the Medical Team, Staff and the Volunteers at The Foothills Country Hospice Society for their care of Carol.

A Celebration of Carol’s Life will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South 12281 40th. Street SE, Calgary, AB) at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared here.
