Obituary of Ronald Guy Desrochers

November 26, 1949 – Prince Albert, Saskatchewan

January 22, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Ronald “Ron” Guy Desrochers beloved husband of Irma Desrochers (nee Swenson), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at the age of 73 years.

 

Ron was born in Prince Albert, SK on November 26, 1949. Ron graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce and a major in accounting. He became a chartered accountant with distinction in 1973. Ron met Irma in 1968 and they married in 1970. They moved to Calgary, AB in 1990.

 

He was a member of the board and president of Lindsay Park Sports Centre and volunteered with his sons’ swim team regularly. Ron accomplished much throughout his life. He was particularly proud of his many business ventures and enjoyed much success.

 

Ron loved playing cards and games with his brothers, sisters, grandchildren, and many other family and friends. He also had a passion for golf and was out on the course regularly with many friends and family, travelling extensively to play the game. Ron’s most memorable vacation was when he and his two sons went to St. Andrew’s, the home of golf, and played the Old Course together in 2009. He also loved to travel the world with his wife Irma, and they created many wonderful memories together. Ron loved music and listening to his favourite artists, including the Eagles and the Beatles.

 

Ron will be most remembered for his quiet, kind spirit and generosity. He gave so much and expected nothing in return.

 

Along with his loving wife Irma, Ron is survived by his two sons and two daughters-in-law, Derek and Jennie Desrochers and Darren, and Jane Desrochers, of Calgary, AB; and six grandchildren, Ella Desrochers, Teo Desrochers, Otto Desrochers, Rowan Desrochers, Sarah Desrochers, and Freyja Desrochers, of Calgary, AB. Ron is also survived by his sisters, Pauline Duret and Diane (Bert) Beaulac; brother Denis (Marlene) Desrochers, sisters-in-law, Marlene and (Warren) Loyns, and Marilyn and (Eric) Thomas; brother-in-law Conrad (Leta) Swenson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Ron was predeceased by his parents, Philippe and Jeanne Desrochers of Prince Albert, SK; his brother Albert Desrochers of Calgary, AB, his sister Solange Couture of Debden, SK, brothers-in-law, Andy Duret of Prince Albert, SK, and Jack Couture of Debden, SK; as well as his niece Therese Lalonde of St. Albert, AB.  

 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Graveside Service to follow the reception at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens (24223 Township Rd 242, Calgary, AB). Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Desrochers' service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
