Obituary of William Gardiner MCGEACHY

July 27, 1932 – Sarnia, Ontario September 10, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of William Gardiner McGeachy. He went peacefully in the early morning of Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the age of 87 years. William was born on July 27, 1932 in Sarnia, Ontario to Olive Marion McGeachy (Gardiner) and Robert Andrew McGeachy. Graduating from high school in Sarnia in 1950, he proceeded to attend the University of Toronto to study Anthropology, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. From there he went West to the University of Saskatchewan in 1954 to study medicine. Upon graduation in 1958 he did a one year internship at the University Hospital in Saskatoon. Pursuing further training in medicine and surgery he moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1959 to intern for two years at the Colonel Belcher Hospital. There he met his future wife Margaret Elizabeth Edmonds. They became engaged in 1960 and married in 1961. William continued his career, first with a family practice at Chinook Medical Clinic, then specializing as a surgical assist in most Calgary hospitals, including the Children’s Hospital where he most recently practiced up until 2013. Along with a successful career, he was also a dedicated, kind and loving father, father in law, uncle and friend. William was an avid reader and his many and varied interests included: history, geography, politics, outdoor pursuits, curling, woodworking, travel, boats, ships and cruising. He will be greatly missed for his acute sense of humour and warm hearted presence. William is survived by his son Donald Craig McGeachy and daughter-in-law Bernadette Geraldine Teresa McGeachy (Kenny) and his daughter Diane Margaret McGeachy (Gerald Lajeunesse). He was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret Elizabeth McGeachy. A Gathering will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY () on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 2:00- 5:00p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
