Obituary of H. Lloyd Eriksson

ERIKSSON, H. Lloyd

September 4, 1939 – Sherridon, Manitoba

February 3, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Lloyd Eriksson, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023 at the age of 83 years.

Lloyd was born in Sherridon, MB on September 4, 1939, and spent three years in Cedar on Vancouver Island before his family returned to Manitoba when he was eleven. Being in the 1950 Canoe River train accident en route to Manitoba remained an enduring memory. In 1951, their entire house was moved on the winter road and the family relocated from Sherridon to Lynn Lake. He moved to Calgary after high school graduation.

In an ideal world, Lloyd would have become an aeronautical engineer, but calculus got the better of him. After studying drafting at SAIT, he built a career in the construction industry where he applied his knowledge and leadership running his own company, Roof Structures, and then managing the Truss Division for Davidson Enman Lumber Ltd.

Lloyd’s life was enriched by the companionship of two marriages, and family life. He also boasted a network of extended family and friends that offered “a couch to sleep on” for many of the trips he enjoyed.

Lloyd contributed his time, energy, and expertise to so many organizations and groups, too many to mention here for fear of leaving one out. His longest standing commitment was with the VASA Order of America where he served the Grand, District and Branting 417 lodges for 60+ years.

Lloyd’s long list of hobbies included photography (he’s rarely in the picture), curling, cross-country skiing, entertaining, billiards, and cards.  He grew a lush and enviable vegetable garden every summer and shared his love of music by playing violin as often and with as many people as possible.

Lloyd was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia, and survived by his two daughters, Robin (Nolan), and Britta (Ritchie); sister-in-law Julia (Nick), and nephew Ben, his two brothers, Bill (Joyce) and Dave (Cathy); and four nieces, April (Eldon), Sherry, Kelly (Chris) and Kristie (Doug); his second wife Sigrun, stepsons, Magni and Gardar (Kim); and step-grandson Björn.
