Obituary of Alexander Roy MUNRO

"Roy" Munro passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at the Rockyview Hospital. Roy was born and raised in Calgary. As the grandson of an 1890 Calgary homestead family, Roy was extremely proud of his heritage and his Calgary roots, and was an active member of the Southern Alberta Pioneers & Their Descendants Association. Roy joined the Masonic Lodge in 1957 and became an honorary member of the Bow River Lodge #1 in 1992. He joined the Scottish Rite in 1959, the Al Azhar Shriners and the Mounted Patrol in 1963, and the Royal Order of Jesters in 1977. Roy was a proud member of the Stampede Board, and for ten days in July there was always an extra step in his walk. Roy was a successful and respected business man and made countless life-long professional and personal friends throughout his career. Roy will always be remembered as a quiet, reserved man. He relished in sharing his personal knowledge of events and people who he knew had changed the landscape of the surroundings he grew up in. Roy is survived by his loving partner Shirley; sons Terry and Richard, his brother Stuart, many relatives, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother Jim. At Roy's request no Funeral Service will be held. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
