Obituary of Johanna Laabs

Johanna Laabs, born in Saalau, East Prussia (Germany), passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Brentwood Intercare in Calgary, at the age of 101 years. She will forever be loved and missed by her five daughters: Doris (Bill) Mulder, Eva (Cory) Vriens, Brigitte Moreau, Christina (Howard) Nodwell and Marion (Don) McCullough. Johanna was Oma to nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased in 2015 by Fred, her beloved husband of 63 years and her son-in-law Alex Moreau. As the family matriarch, Johanna was strong, loving, kind and wise, and her greatest joys were spending time with her extended family, her pets and working in the beautiful garden she created and maintained at her little red house on the corner, the family home for 61 years. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care Johanna received at Brentwood Intercare, with special thanks to Dr. Smith and the caring staff of the St. Andrew's Unit. Funeral services will be held at Foothills Lutheran Church (3104 – 34 Avenue N.W.) on Wednesday, January 15 at 1:00 PM.
