Obituary of Maurice David Lorne RANDALL

Obituary of Maurice David Lorne "David" RANDALL Dave Randall of Calgary, AB passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at the age of 80 years. David was born in New Westminster, BC on December 15, 1940. He first moved to Edmonton and then later to Calgary in the 1970s, where he worked for Imperial Oil. Conversation and debate were central to Dave’s life and character, and after years of arguing with prostate cancer, both sides have concluded their arguments, each convinced they have won it. Dave’s ability and eagerness to converse with anyone on any topic was founded upon a base of deep empathy and great curiosity. Dave loved knowledge of all sorts, the more arcane the better, and valued learning as a goal unto itself, as well as a vehicle for conversation and understanding of people. He was always willing to provide sound advice and a good listening ear; he prized the time he spent surrounded by the “noise” of people. If you found him alone, it would always be with the radio and television blaring away while talking on the phone and writing notes at the same time. Sport was also a dominant theme in his life: he loved rugby, hockey, football, soccer, and baseball and would play or be involved in sport in any capacity if the opportunity arose. He played hockey until the ripe young age of eighty and attributed his longevity in his later years to “milk and hockey.” He made many friends and was a welcoming, encouraging leader on and off the ice. David is survived by his daughter, Heather (Jay) of Calgary, AB; his two sons, Kory of Winnipeg, MB and Cameron of Calgary, AB; six grandchildren, Dominic (Heather), Owen Cleo and Jillian (Kory) and Corbin and Abigail (Cameron) and his loving girlfriend Lies. David is also survived by two sisters, Jacquelyn Rud (Robert) and Jerryl Tancon of BC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, the coffee and hockey groups, and numerous friends. David was predeceased by wife Sandra, son Toby, parents Grace Beatrice and Maurice, and sister Robyn. Please forward condolences through www.hffs.com.
