Obituary of Charles Douglas Copping

November 20, 1955 – February 24, 2023

The family of Charles Douglas “Doug”Copping are deeply saddened to announce his passing on February 24, 2023.  Doug showed nothing but grace, dignity, and determination in his efforts to overcome his diagnosis of leukemia one year ago.

After graduating from high school in Ottawa, Doug moved west, settling in Calgary.

Doug was passionate about his career as an Inspector of Pressure Equipment. He graduated from SAIT in 1982 as a Power Engineer and subsequently began a 30-year career at Agrium (formerly Cominco) retiring from there as a Process Operator at the Carsland plant.  In 1995 Doug started his own company CEG Group Inc. which he continued to operate until his passing. It was run on the principals of integrity and trust – values that were a part of Doug’s being.

Doug cherished his many visits to see family and friends.  He had many memorable vacations to Hawaii, Malta, Italy, Barbados, Nashville (go Flames!), Las Vegas, BC, Manitoba, and Ontario. Frequent trips to Canmore and Banff were also had.

He was always up to participate in new and old outdoor pursuits including hiking, biking, skiing, and paddleboarding. Doug will be forever remembered for his kindness, generosity, up-for-anything attitude, and his amazing hugs.

Doug is survived by his loving partner Jackie Vetters.  He also leaves behind his four children whom he loved dearly Glendon (Stephanie), Graham, Charlotte (Blake) and Emmalyn. He is survived by his brother Ross (Sylvie), sisters Sandy and Nancy. Doug’s memory will be forever cherished by his five nephews, great-nephew, loving cousins, extended family members and many friends.  Doug was predeceased by his little brother Alan, his mother and father.

A huge and heartfelt thank you to all the health care workers at the Foothills Hospital/Tom Baker Clinic, especially Dr. Jamani, Dr. Modi, Dr. Grossman, Dr. Johnson, Dr. McFadden, all the nursing staff at the Tom Baker BMT clinic and Unit 57.

A celebration of Doug’s life will be planned for a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Doug’s memory to a charity of your choice.

In living memory of Doug Copping, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.
