Obituary of Shannon Margaret-Anne Shaw

January 2, 1952 – Prince Albert, Saskatchewan

March 18, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Shannon Shaw (nee Tarry) of Calgary, passed away at the Agape Hospice surrounded by family on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the age of 71 years.

 

Shannon was born in Prince Albert, SK in 1952 to Margaret and Arnold Tarry. She moved to Calgary in 1983 and had a successful career in the Oil & Gas and Rail industries as a records technician and contracts analyst, until she retired in 2015. She married Gordon Phillip Shaw in Calgary in 1996 and was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles – Aerie 2098 Calgary, working with the Ladies Auxiliary on a variety of charitable initiatives. Shannon was a Past Madam President for the Calgary chapter, and a Trustee of the Provincial Ladies Auxiliary.

 

Shannon was a teacher and storyteller at heart and could be counted on to share history, teach a certain fact or help create understanding between people. Shannon treasured her friends and family and was a caring, kind, and loving person, Shannon was gifted in making sure everyone she met felt loved and accepted. She was at the ready to celebrate an achievement, could give the best hugs, and was there to help see the brighter side when things felt dark.

 

Shannon was the proud mother of Cassandra Draho and Meaghan (Toby Tinordi) Whitney and cherished her role as Grandy to Heather and Cameron Draho. Shannon was an aunt to Todd, Tobi (Kim), Scott (Jessica), Sarah (Chris) and Jennifer, and a great-aunt to Jeffrey (Hazel), Justin (Lauretta), Scott (Samantha), Marina, Amanda (Nick), Serenity, Cooper, Kelsey, Brooklyn, Bowen, Kaylee, Lauren, Devon, Levi, Maya, and Fox. She is survived by husband Gordon, her sisters Lynda Ramsdale and Cindy Liske.

 

Gone before her, and certainly there to welcome her home are her parents Margaret and Arnold, her brothers Calvin and Greg, and nephew Bryce.

A Celebration of Shannon’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Guests are encouraged to dress comfortably and not somberly. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Shaw’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
