Dear family of Syd, the gentle giant,
Our Father was staying at the Colonel Belcher and had the good fortune of being located down the hall from Syd and at his dinner seating until his passage in April, 2018. On Dad’s first day at the Belcher, we headed downstairs to the ‘pub’ and literally ran into Syd in the elevator. He smiled his big beautiful smile and guided us there and from that time, we all became fast friends. Syd was always such a gentleman and a joy to chat with, with his positive outlook about life, interesting stories, love of people and friendly demeanour. I know that Dad had initial reservations about being placed at the Belcher but Syd was the one who brought him comfort, peace and joy in his final days, and for that we will always be grateful. Syd was one of the last people to spend time with Dad before his passage and we all had a good cry together. Rest well, sweet Syd.
