Obituary of Syd Miller

Syd Miller of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at the age of 101 years.

Syd grew up in Eagle Hill and he joined the Air Force after high school. He was stationed in High River, AB as a flight instructor until the end of the war. Syd married Dot Harrison (Reekie) in 1944 and married Em Millar in 1965. Syd accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of his Massey Ferguson dealership. Syd enjoyed many sports, but his passion was golf. The Sylvan Lake cabin witnessed many parties and family gathering. Friends and families were always welcome. 

Syd’s work provided opportunity to travel to various parts of the world. Once he retired, he settled down in Sun City West, Arizona and belonged to the Briar Wood Golf and Country Club. His Alberta home was Priddis Green where he enjoyed golfing into his 90s.   When he moved to Calgary, he remained an active member of the golf course. Syd spent the last nine years at the Colonel Belcher residence where he received excellent care. Syd loved the staff and appreciated everything they did for him. We know they loved him dearly.

Syd is survived by his sons, Wayne and Greg and daughters-in-law Liz and Diane, of Calgary; seven grandchildren, Randy, Jamie, Christie, Alan, Brandon, Gennyne, and Marcia; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and multiple nieces and nephews. Syd was predeceased by Em Miller, stepson Pat McCune, parents and four brothers. 

Celebration of life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends unable to attend in person are invited to join Syd's service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
