Obituary of Robert Edmond Norton

Robert E. Norton, “Bob”, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at the age of 95 years.

 

Bob will be dearly missed. He was a father, grandfather, friend, teacher, homeowner, environmentalist, fly fisher, hunter, golfer, and longtime NDP supporter. He was a member of the Calgary Hook and Hackle Club, Carstairs and Olds gun clubs, and the Rocky Mountain Ramblers.

 

Bob graduated from Van Tech HS in Vancouver. He also attended Naramata Centre where he formed friendships that sustained him his whole life. He graduated with a B Ed from the University of Alberta, Calgary Campus in 1954. Dad had many work experiences, among them were longshoreman, forestry work, bookkeeper, baker, and his longtime teaching career in Calgary, retiring in 1986.

 

Bob is survived by his children and their partners, Jane Wills, Susan Norton and Gary Stefko, John Norton and Dee Bates; granddaughter Jessie Wills and Cody Champagne.

 

He was predeceased by his parents Mabel Robinson (nee Roblin) and Joseph De Blair Norton of Vancouver, BC; son-in-law Roland Wills, son Jim, and his dear wife Helen Norton (nee Cummings).

 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Monday, April 10, 2023, at 10:00 AM. The family asks that in honor of Bob’s memory, you dress casually and feel free to share stories or memories you have of him during the open mic tributes.
