William Moir

Obituary of William Richard Moir

January 24, 1943 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

March 26, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

On Sunday, March 26, 2023, Bill Moir left this world to join his wife, Mary Moir (nee Driscoll), who predeceased him on February 11, 2007.

Born in Winnipeg, MB and raised in Montreal, QC, Bill joined the RCAF at the age of 17. He subsequently served throughout Canada, first as an Air Navigator and later as a Medical Administration Officer, until he retired in Calgary, AB, in 1984, to pursue a civilian career in Human Resources and Occupational Health and Safety. Bill’s best friend and guiding light was his Prince Edward Island bride, Mary, whom he married on July 31, 1965. They were proverbial soul mates, who made many friends and greatly enjoyed living and working in 8 provinces. As well, they readily supported each other’s interests and pursuit of continuing education and development – she, the creative one (Yin), and he, the analytic one (Yang). Unfortunately, they were prevented from enjoying a much-anticipated retirement with “summers on the island” when cancer intervened and took Mary’s life prior to their retirement.

Upon leaving, Bill wished to acknowledge that he was truly blessed with the love and support of his daughters, Tara-Lynn Dyck and Allison Starzynski; his grandchildren, Valerie, Byron and Jenna-Leigh Skyla, and Season Dyck, plus Jordan and Logan Starzynski; his great grandchildren; his sons-in-law Rob and Jason; plus, the families of Bill’s and Mary’s brothers and sisters.

Internment of Bill’s ashes will take place beside Mary and the Driscoll family at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Summerside, PEI , at a later date.

In living memory of Bill Moir, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB T2Z 4E6, Telephone: 403-203-0525.
