Obituary of Shirley Isabel Morris

Shirley Morris (Taylor) of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at the age of 86.

Shirley was born August 5, 1936, to Austin and Enid (McKenzie) Taylor in Cook’s Cove, Nova Scotia. She is survived by her son Colin (Montreal), sisters Dorothy Fischer (Dale, deceased), Debbie Weatherhead (Brian), Marg Quinn (Scott), Mabel Sawyer (Jack, deceased); brothers Earl (Joyce), and Byron (Celia); along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Noel (Red) Morris, sister Victoria Drake, and brothers Bill, Wentworth (Bud), and Eric.

Shirley moved to Alberta as a member of the RCAF in the 1950’s and made the province her home when she left the service. She met her husband Red in Edmonton, and they were married in 1967, settling in Calgary.

Shirley and Red spent 46 happy years together hiking the Rockies, travelling, and golfing. Shirley was active in a number of community organisations and clubs, where she made many friends. The pair were gracious hosts, always happy to welcome friends and family into their home - the centre of many gatherings.

Shirley’s sense of humor was matched by her warmth and the memory of her beauty and laughter shines on in our hearts.

A gathering will be held at McInnis & Holloway (McInnis and Holloway Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Shirley’s service streamed live on the day of the service here. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed there.
