It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Norman Asmundson, beloved husband of Elaine Asmundson (nee Webster), on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the age of 80 years.

Norm was born on November 27, 1942, in Edmonton, AB. His family later moved to Calgary where he attended Crescent Heights high school during which time he met and subsequently married his wife of nearly 60 years, Elaine Webster on September 26, 1964. After getting married, they started their life together in Peace River, AB where Norm worked for the bank. Years later they moved to Sherwood Park, AB where son Ryan was born in 1970 and soon after they moved back to Calgary where daughter Keri was born in 1973. Norm and Elaine eventually established roots in the southeast Calgary community of Queensland where they met several lifelong friends.

Norm was a long-time Kinsmen, being a charter and life member of the Sherwood Park Club before joining Kinsmen Club of The Stampede City upon returning to Calgary.

Norm became an insurance agent with Allstate Insurance in 1985 and enjoyed a long and successful career of almost 24 years until his retirement in 2009. Norm spent his retirement years traveling to Arizona with Elaine and especially loved his trip to Iceland where he met distant relatives for the first time.

He enjoyed playing hockey from a young age until well into his fifties as a member of the Queensland Bombers and became an avid golfer, which included many golf trips with his buddies. He also had a love of music and was learning to play guitar after he retired.

Norm will be lovingly remembered by his wife Elaine, son Ryan (Carla) Asmundson, daughter Keri (Robert) Zoppi, as well as three grandchildren, Tyler, Parker, and Madison. He is also survived by his stepmother Norma Carroll, sister Marilyn (Patrick) Hogan, sister-in-law Marilyn Webster, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mom Helen Cunningham, dad Thorvalder Pall Asmundson, sister Dorothy Hagerman, stepfather Clayton Carroll, brother-in-law Murray Webster, and his nephew Craig Hogan.

Love and friendship, joy and laughter are all part of Norm’s legacy. He will be forever dearly missed by his family and all those who knew him.
