Obituary of Laura Habib

November 11, 1940 - Ain Arab, Lebanon
April 19, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Our beloved Mother passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023, with us at her side. May she Rest in Peace with our Lord. She will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. She was the heart and soul of our family.

Laura immigrated to Canada from Lebanon in 1953 to live with her aunt and work in this country. A few years later, by chance, ran into Michael Habib in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, whom she knew from the old country. They fell in love and got married April 11, 1955. Such a beautiful young couple raising two sons, David and Donny, and then moved to Calgary, Alberta, for better work opportunities, as well as adding a daughter, Dianna, to the family. They worked hard and were joyous that God had given them their beautiful children.

They owned and operated two restaurants, first in Calgary near the Stampede grounds, then in Tecumseh, Ontario, years later. They moved back to Calgary and Laura worked at Woolco/Walmart at various positions; first managing the Red Grille Cafeteria, then different sales departments, and as a Greeter for a few years before retiring. She was loved by all for her beautiful smile and uplifting spirit. Who could go to Walmart and not want to see Laura!

She loved to garden, bake, cook, entertain at her home, go to Lebanese parties, dinner theater and listen to music. She was the life of the party and loved dancing. Having family and friends over for a meal and a few laughs filled her soul with joy. She was a fabulous hostess at her home. She enjoyed travelling, especially to Hawaii, Mexico, and Las Vegas.

She belonged to the Antiochian Orthodox Church and Ladies Auxiliary for many years and went on several retreats. She was very passionate about her religion and commitment to God always.

Laura is survived by her adoring children: son David (Veronica) and family - Ashley and Lindsey; son Donald (Rebecca) and family Alyx, Reese, Dwayne (Kathy) and little Jesse, Jason (Brandi); and daughter Dianna (Shannon). She is also survived by her loving sister Evelene; brother Elias (Deirdre) and family - Michael (Samantha), Katie (Grant), Christine and Jason; brother Nick (Rola) and family - Anthony, Joseph and Gabriella; sister-in-law Sara and family - George, Joanne (Peter) and Karen; brother-in-law Nasr Chahine and family - Rebecca (Garrett), Chady (Ella); as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Laura was predeceased by her husband, and love of her life, Michael Yousif Habib, her parents Georges and Mary Kobrosly, her birth mother Adele El-Ossais (died when Laura was a toddler), brother Khalil Kobrosly, sister Jourieh Chahine and her beloved granddaughter, Amanda Girodat.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all of those who joined us in celebrating Laura’s life. She loved all you with such passion and cherishes all the memories she made with you, may she Rest in Peace.
