Sincere condolences to Josie and family and Edna, Maxine, Clark and extended families; Charles will be dearly missed by all. Mary (nee: Kirkwold) and Michael Dunkley
Our deepest sympathy to Josie & family and to Charles's Mom Edna and his siblings and their families on his passing.
I met Charles in 1972 when we started Grade 10 together in Airdrie. Many decades later, I still laugh at some of his practical jokes. And his help with calculus (Charles was terrific at math) has still not been forgotten.
We continued our friendship at the University of Calgary. He was always at the centre of a group of friends because he knew so many people and he was always so darn much fun. I can still 'see' Charles in his red 'crew cab' taking friends downtown in Calgary.
In fact, all my memories of Charles are happy ones, from the Halloween parties ... skiing at Sunshine ... even that late evening one summer when we both pulled over on Highway 2 for a long talk.
As importantly, I will remember Charles's irrepressible resiliency in the Fanning Centre despite the heartbreaking tragedy of his accident. He bravely tested new medical technology and the sparkle of his mischievous personality was always evident.
Charles was a loyal and generous friend who will never be forgotten by all who had the opportunity to know him.
Our sincerest sympathy for your loss of Charles

Charles and I started grade one together in the fall of 1963 and were friends all through school and of course we had the usual teenage escapades when Airdrie was just a small town. He was a member of our wedding party and we both took on farming the family farm so we have always been close neighbours as well as friends. There are many memories of curling together through the years. We loved going to the big wiener roasts with fireworks that Charles put on every August and the fun times we had at the yearly fundraisers in Calgary for Joey’s school. Stampeder football games! I will always miss the many many phone calls we shared from the seats of our tractors. These are just a few highlights from a lifetime of memories. Charles was a very good man and a true friend.
Godspeed my friend.
