Obituary of Islay Mildred Remington

Islay Remington of Calgary, AB passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023 at the age of 97 years.

Islay was born in Beechy, SK on December 22, 1925. After graduating from high school, she moved to Ottawa, ON where she worked various secretarial jobs. Islay moved to Calgary where she met and married Jim Remington on April 7, 1951. She followed him throughout his army career to London, ON, and Regina, SK before making a final move back to Calgary in 1971. Islay worked hard throughout her life, looking after her home and four boys while Jim served in Korea, Egypt, and Cypress.

Islay and Jim were both avid readers and enjoyed playing bridge in the Lakeview community. Islay’s most memorable vacation was the trip she took to Cypress where she vacationed with Jim on the Mediterranean Sea. She also vacationed in Mexico and Hawaii but always talked about her trip across Canada that she took with Jim when he retired.

Islay is survived by her four sons, David (Cindy), John (Evelyn) Robert (Jane), and Mark; eight grandchildren, Serra (Curt), Matthew (Mike), Tyler (Jill), Trevor (Sheena), Brian (Christy), Scott (Ariane), Krysta (Steve), and Mackenzie; as well as eight great-grandchildren, Piper, Spencer, Maxwell, Meridith, Charlotte, Penelope, Josie, and Sadie. Islay was predeceased by her husband Jim, her sisters, Muriel and Helen, and her brother Melvin.
