Ron Burns

Obituary of Ron Burns

We are sad to share the passing of Ronald Burns on Thursday, April 20, 2023.  Ron was a husband, father, papa, uncle, and friend.

Ron was born in Port Alberni, BC, July 4, 1934, and grew up in Victoria and Nanton, AB. It was in Nanton, at a community dance that he met the love of his life, Wilda.  They were married in 1956 and started life together on the farm in Nanton.  They loved going for picnics, stopping somewhere to fish, playing rousing games of 10 Nickel Rummy or Crib, and working in the garden. They were blessed to spend 67 years together.

They moved to Calgary in 1957 and raised their family of four. Ron was involved in church, Cubs and Scouts, and coaching baseball.  In his retirement he took up bowling, at the Chinook Bowladrome, which he enjoyed immensely. In 2021, Ron and Wilda moved to Okotoks to be closer to ‘the kids.  True to form they quickly made friends and joined in the community there.  They played more crib; dad joined another bowling league, and he even took part in a play!

Ron will be missed by his loving wife Wilda, and his children, Colleen (Don), Kathy (Guy), Doug (Heather), and Donald. Papa shared much wisdom and fun with his grandchildren, Caitlin (Adam), Morgan (Aman), Lucas (Cheyenne), Zach (Kyla) and Kellen (Suzie).

He loved rolling around on the floor with the ‘greats’, Rowan, Avery, Camryn, Cayden, Carter, Austin, Callie, Jackson, and Wynn.

Special thanks to his nephew Larry Stafford, and his friend Bob Chisolm, for all the visits these past weeks.  We would also like to thank the fabulous team on Unit 68 at South Health Campus.  Your kindness and gentle care of Dad made these last weeks so much easier for all of us.
