Obituary of David Cecil Elwood

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Cecil Elwood, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle.  David passed away in Calgary, AB on Monday, May 1, 2023, at the age of 86.

David was born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland and was happily married to Sheila for 62 years. Sheila passed away in April 2022 and we know they are overjoyed to be together again.

In 1976 David and Sheila immigrated to Calgary with their three children.  David was a millwright by trade and spent most of his career as a maintenance manager in the manufacturing industry.  He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who was treasured and loved immensely by his family.  Life will never be the same without him.

He was a very talented builder and renovated/improved/added his and Sheila’s touch to every home they lived in.  He loved crosswords, watching sports, and he faithfully tuned in to Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy every night.

David is survived by his two daughters, Kim (Ken) and Nicola (Jim); his four grandchildren, Lisa (Jay), Michael, Kyle (Bri), and Rhys; and his two great-grandchildren Madison and Logan; all of Calgary, AB.   He is also survived by his sisters, Noreen and Jean; his brother, Raymond, and his nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom.

David was predeceased by his loving wife Sheila, his only son Neil, his parents David and May Elwood of Belfast, Northern Ireland and his brother William of Scotland.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
