Obituary of Dennis Victor McCaffery

January 14, 1934 - May 5, 2023 

Dennis McCaffery, beloved husband of Charlotte McCaffery (nee Campbell) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at the age of 89 years.

Dennis was born on January 14, 1934, in Calgary, Alberta to Joseph and Victoria. He was the third of four brothers: Patrick, Michael, and Terrence. 

Dennis received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958 and his Law degree in 1961, both from the University of Oklahoma. After graduating, Dennis returned to Calgary where he articled and practiced law with the firm his father founded in 1922. Throughout his career he practiced with his father, brothers, and various partners until his retirement in the mid-nineties.

In 1962, Dennis married the love of his life Charlotte Campbell at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Calgary.

Dennis was immensely proud of his children, their spouses, and his grandchildren. He loved supporting them in all their endeavours: coaching hockey for both his sons, supporting his daughter in all her sports and guiding her through law school, and cheering on his grandkids in all their activities.

Dennis enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved his Oklahoma Sooners, his lake house in Oklahoma and travelling throughout the world.

Dennis will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He was a friend to many but the best-friend and strongest supporter of Charlotte, his wife of 60+ years.

Besides his loving wife, Dennis is survived by his daughter Tracy and son-in-law Duncan Parks; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Cheryl, James and Amy; four grandchildren, Anne, Joseph, Abigail and Julia. Dennis is also survived by brother and sister-in-law Terrence and Karen.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
