Obituary of George Edward Rammul Potter

George Potter of Calgary, AB passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at the age of 24 years at Foothills Medical Centre (FMC).

 

George was born in Calgary on November 20, 1998. He attended elementary school, middle school, and high school all in Calgary. George was pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications (Journalism) at Mount Royal University at the time of his illness.

 

In his youth George was involved in the Navy League of Canada, Captain Jackson and then Undaunted. With Undaunted, he was awarded the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Medal and at this ceremony he met Prince Edward.

 

George was an accomplished musician, excelling at trumpet and guitar. George was an avid sports fan (especially hockey). His passion was all the teams from Calgary. Especially the Calgary Flames.

 

He will be most remembered for his humour, kindness, and thoughtfulness. He withstood his illness with True Grit.

 

George is survived by his parents, Valerie and Shane Potter. As an only child he embraced all his extended family, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and godparents.

 

A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at Woodcliff United Church (5010 Spruce Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. We invite everyone to wear their favourite sports team jersey. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.

On a final note, the Potter Family would like to thank all the staff on the Fifth Floor Oncology Unit at FMC (Tom Baker Center) for the care of their son, George. With special thanks to U.A. Local 496 Calgary, for the continued health and welfare benefits for George.
