Obituary of Leonore Irene Lois Schroeder

Leonore Irene Lois Schroeder (nee Park) passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the age of 101 years. Leonore was predeceased by her husband Elwin (Nick). She will be very much missed by her daughter, Diane Newcombe (Ken); her son Robert (Jane) Schroeder, her grandchildren, Kari (Clint), David (David), John (Alisa); and her great-grandchildren, Asher, Morgan, and Anderson.

Leonore was born in Victoria BC on April 26, 1922. Her father was a CPR station agent, and the family lived in many small towns in Alberta. Leonore met Nick in Gadsby, AB. She received her teaching certificate at Normal School in Calgary in 1942, and her first teaching post was a one room school in rural Alberta north of Medicine Hat. Leonore and Nick were married in Fort Macleod in 1943.

After the war, they moved to a farm south of Nanton. In 1959, the family, Leonore, Nick, Diane and Bob, moved to Calgary. Leonore resumed her teaching career, becoming vice-principal at Maple Ridge elementary. She then moved to the CBE offices where she worked in the Learning Resources Centre until her retirement. After retirement, she and Nick had many travels and wintered in California. She was an avid golfer and cross country skied. She had an active and busy social life with her many close friends.

Leonore moved into Trinity Lodge in 2019, where she continued to enjoy being with her friends and family. In spite of her age, she remained active, enjoying the entertainment the lodge offered. She played bridge the week of her passing.

The family would like to thank the amazing and very caring staff at Trinity Lodge. This was truly a home for Leonore and we are very grateful that she was loved and cared for while living there. We would also like to express our thanks for the kindness and compassionate care she received during her brief stay at Foothills hospital and to her nurse Claire.

A Celebration of Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, May 18, 2023, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
