Obituary of James Theodore Solohub

February 9, 1942 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

James “Jim” Theodore Solohub of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at the age of 81 years.

Jim was born in Winnipeg, MB, on February 9, 1942, to Anne and William Solohub. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1964, and a Master of Science degree in 1967.

Jim enjoyed working in the “bush” as a Geologist in Northern Canada. In 1970, Jim married Sandra. Together they lived in Nigeria, England, and Norway while Jim worked for Mobil developing computer systems and information technology to support various oilfield projects. With their two daughters, Jillian, and Claire, they moved back to Winnipeg in 1980. Jim then worked for the University of Manitoba as Director of Computer Services, before moving to Calgary in 1985. In Calgary, Jim continued his work in Information Services with Petro-Canada and IBM, before starting his own business as a consultant for Nexen, Cameco, and other companies.

Jim loved to ski, and enjoyed spending summers at his cabin in Minaki, ON.  Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sandra; daughters, Jillian (Rob) Slivinski of Calgary, and Claire (Juddson) Sechrist of Boise, ID; grandchildren, Ava, Kaleigh, Jackson, Lukas, Mila, and Caleb of Calgary; grandchildren Max and Vance of Boise; sister Joan (Bernie) Atamanchuk of Winnipeg, MB; and brother Robert (Iona) Solohub of Eden Prairie, MN. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Anne and William Solohub.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Jim’s life. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
