Obituary of Nigel Clifford Proulx

October 29, 1943 – Surrey, England

June 14, 2023 - Okotoks, Alberta

Nigel Clifford Proulx, beloved husband of Elaine (nee Sparling) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the age of 79 years.

Nigel was born in Reigate, Surrey, England on October 29, 1943.  His father was a French-Canadian soldier and his mother a British War bride. His mother Joan and Nigel arrived in Ottawa in 1945.

Married in 1965, Nigel and Elaine moved to Toronto in 1969 and then Calgary in 1984 where he worked for Texaco and then Imperial Oil.  In retirement Nigel drove a Southland school bus, enjoying his interaction with the young people.

Nigel was very much a “family man.” His most enjoyable time was with family especially with his two daughters Jennifer and Sheryl. Whatever their activities, you could count on Nigel’s involvement, including baton and drum corps events.

Sports were a passion for Nigel where he excelled in baseball and curling as well as horseback riding.  He was famous for his “Dad” groaner jokes. When asked his middle name, he often said “my name is Cliff, drop over some time.”

Besides his loving wife, Nigel is survived by his two daughters Sheryl Proulx (Steve Critchlow) and Jennifer Stinn (Brian), who reside in Calgary. Nigel has also been blessed with three grandsons, Kyler Morrison (Miryam), Ethan Lundy (Hayley) of Calgary and Myles Lundy of Drayton Valley.  Also survived by granddaughter Emily Critchlow of Calgary and two step grandsons, Parker, and Jaxon Stinn of Calgary, and at only 4 months, great grandson, Daniel Morrison of Calgary, all bringing him much joy.

Nigel will be sadly missed by his brother Lloyd (Diane) of Ottawa.

He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins as well as an aunt and uncle in the UK.

Funeral Services will be held at Holy Nativity Anglican Church (12707 Bonaventure Drive S.E., Calgary, AB) on Monday, June 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.  If you wish to attend the service virtually, you may join here:  https://www.facebook.com/holynativitycalgary/.  Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at www.MHFH.com.

As well, Dr. Doug Helmerson and his team, especially Gail, at the Peter Lougheed Hospital PAH Clinic who helped Nigel through his eight-year PAH illness.  Special thanks to Foothills Country Hospice who gave Nigel quality of life in the end of his life journey. You truly are incredible blessings and hold a very special place in our hearts. There are not enough words to recognize what these amazing professionals did for Nigel to give him quality of life right to the very end.  The family has great gratitude for your care and support.
