Obituary of Jeff Jackson

December 24, 1932 - Montreal, Quebec

June 19, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

John “Jeff” Jackson of Calgary, AB, passed peacefully away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at the age of 90 years.

Jeff was born in Montreal, QC on December 24, 1932. He moved to Calgary, AB, in 1975. He graduated from Lachine High School in the west island of Montreal where he was an all-around athlete and held many athletic records some which still stand today. In 1954 he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life Rita. Jeff worked his whole life in the telephone industry, Bell Canada, and TELUS (AGT).

He remained very active throughout his life; however, he had a special love for golf and played whenever he could. Jeff was an active volunteer with many organizations especially the Telephone Pioneers of America where he was the Alberta chapter president and The Calgary Stampede – Western Showcase committee (fifteen years).

Jeff was always making a play on words or turning a phrase. He was always quick to help others out. He did love making things in his shop and was constantly trying new things and new challenges. Some might call him the life of the party.

He is survived by his two sons and three daughters-in-law, Hal Jackson (Mags) of Victoria, BC, Todd Jackson (Karen) of Calgary, and first daughter-in-law Donna Jackson of Calgary AB; three grandchildren, Andrea Gamble (Brian) of London UK, Lindsay Jackson (Rob Varcoe) of Kingston ON, and Scott Jackson of Calgary AB; three great-grandchildren; Owen Gamble and Teagan Gamble of London UK, and Emmett Varcoe of Kingston ON. Jeff is also survived by nieces and nephews in Calgary and many cousins in Montreal. Jeff was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Rita, as well as his parents, Gordon M. and Emily Marjorie Jackson

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Jeff's service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
