Obituary of Eugene-Edzel Boceta

Eugene-Edzel Boceta, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the age of 24 years. He bravely fought for fourteen months after being diagnosed with Stage IV Sarcoma.

Eugene-Edzel was born in Montreal, QC, on November 7, 1999.

He moved to Calgary, AB, in 2009.

Eugene-Edzel graduated from Our Lady of the Rockies, previously known as Bishop Grandin in High School. Also went to Mount Royal University under Transitional Vocational Program to build a variety of skills.

He was particularly proud of being member of a CXI Dance Group and Youth for Christ during his High School days.

Eugene-Edzel enjoyed building Lego, collecting shoes, had a passion of drawing, loved to dance, and great in fashion.

Eugene-Edzel’s most memorable vacation was when he went to Montreal, QC, with his siblings and enjoyed Parc Safari and La Ronde.

His favourite toy is Woody from ‘Toy Story’, because he is a true friend, never leaved someone behind.

Eugene-Edzel leaves an indelible impression on those who called him Edzel, brother, cousin, and a friend. He has a brilliant spirit, radiant smile, and compassionate heart captivated everyone who had the chance to know him. He will be most remembered for his beautiful soul, gentle, and kind-hearted personality.

Eugene-Edzel is also survived by his parents, Arcel Villanueva and Enrico Boceta, brother Yves John Mathieu, two sisters Kayla-Erika, and Arianne-Mae of Calgary, AB; grandson of Corazon Roperez, as well as numerous aunts and uncles, cousins and friends resides in Montreal, QC, Calgary, AB, and Edmonton, AB. A significant pain and grieving by his uncle Paul Villanueva who came to Calgary, AB, from Montreal, QC, to personally support and helped them get through difficult time.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 21 and Friday, December 22, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 11:00 AM. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Eugene-Edzel’s family here.

In living memory of Eugene-Edzel Boceta, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB T2Z 4E6, Telephone: 403-203-0525.
