Obituary of Mike Manderson

December 8, 1953 – July 17, 2023

Michael was born in Annapolis Royal on December 8, 1953, to Elizabeth Mead of Bermuda, and Richard Manderson of PEI. He was a romantic and loved the story of how his parents met and married. He was survived by two older sisters, Pat and Susan; two younger brothers, Jeremy and Christopher; his sister-in-law Heather, alongside his beloved wife, Elisia.

His personality and outlook on life were shaped in part by the many places he lived—Annapolis Valley, NS, Bath, England, Churchill Falls, NL, Montreal, QC, and Calgary, by his professions which included photography, plumbing and power engineering, by his family, and by his friends.

Michael met Elisia Teixeira with whom he shared the later part of his life. They met later in life, so had no children together but he loved her son Leandro, daughter Lais, their spouses and adored their four young granddaughters. Mike left four nieces in Calgary, Laura Alexander, Katherine Tourigney, Susan Sutton, and Bridget Baskin, and Jeremias and Veronique Manderson in Spain. Those who knew him loved him dearly, and so did his great-nieces and nephews, Emily, James, Jade, Jake, Abbi, Georgia, Paige, Ben, and Josie, who will all also remember him with love.

Michael was curious, creative, inventive, incredibly intelligent, and had a terrific sense of the ridiculous. He loved music, and had several thousand LPs, taught himself guitar, accordion, and didgeridoo. He built guitars, and at the time of his death was rebuilding a piano, which he was also learning to play. He was an avid gardener, a builder, a cook, and a photographer. He made his own beer. He wrote poetry.

Michael's laugh was big and genuine. He loved to help people in any way he could. He was selfless, kind, and ever so warm-hearted. He will be remembered for those things.

And he will surely be missed.

“When he shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars, and he will make the face of heaven so fine that all the world will be in love with night”. - Romeo and Juliet
