Obituary of Jean Valetta Brown

July 30, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Jean V. Brown (nee Elford) passed away peacefully Sunday, July 30, 2023 with her family at her side at the age of 96 years. She was a lifelong Calgarian. She was born in Calgary, the second youngest of seven children.

 

She is survived by her only child Laurie and her husband Philip, and grandsons, Greg and Tim (Destyn) Norris. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Donald in 2012, and her six siblings. She also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces.

 

She lived in Briar Hill with Don for 52 years, then happily spent the last 18 years at The Manor Village at Garrison Woods, making many happy memories with the residents and staff. Throughout her life in Calgary, she was actively involved with Knox United Church, Girl Guides and Second 60s. She continued to speed skate well into her 80s’. Jean was well known for her baking skills by family and friends.

 

The family would like to thank all the staff at The Manor Village at Garrison Woods for their care and friendship to her for past 18 years. A very special thanks to Wellness staff these past two months, who treated her with such kindness and support, Dr. Michael Geoghegan for his attentive care, and to AHS - Home Care, who helped her until she required additional supports in May 2023. Special thanks to Judy Halhead, Joanne Masur, and Ingrid Ponto who were invaluable to her family in caring for Jean.
