Obituary of Susan Fae Haglund
April 18, 1964 – Lawrence, Kansas, USA
July 29, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Susan Haglund, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the age of 59 years.
Susan Fae was first and foremost an artist. Her love of nature and drawing began at the family cabin in Westerose, AB. Her interests in art, music, and photography directed her life choices. She attended Nelson Arts College, ACAD, SAIT, and the University of Calgary where she received certificates, diplomas and a BFA degree. She ran her own business where she helped other people to preserve art through her amazing picture framing. She was a talented individual, sharing her passion for art through creating and teaching. She taught people of all ages, children to seniors - anyone who wanted to learn.
A prairie girl who had a spring in her step. Susan Fae was born into a loving family and was often surrounded by her many nieces, and nephews, whom she adored. They fondly called her “Super Susie.”
Susan Fae loved people and gathered friends while pursuing her many interests. She loved to travel. She was an environmentalist before it was fashionable, organizing tree plantings in the city. In 2007 she acquired her best companion, Charlie, from the Calgary Humane Society. Together they volunteered with PALS (Pet Access League Society), bringing smiles and joy to many people. She belonged to a variety of art organizations, working alongside printmakers, painters, textile artists, and she fit in with all of them.
Susan Fae was a kind and generous person who will be missed by everyone lucky enough to have known her. She leaves behind her parents, Wayne and Myrna, her siblings, Torr (Mary Anne) Haglund, Mary (Jeff) Printz, Kirsten Haglund and Erika (JP) Evanson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. We say to our beloved Susan Fae, “You may not be here anymore, but you're still in our hearts. May you be granted the peace you deserve. Your soul lives on in the people you touched.”
There's nothing more beautiful than a life fully lived, and Susan Fae lived her life to the fullest.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and staff of Agape Hospice.
A Celebration of Life for Susan will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Church (6311 Norfolk Drive NW, Calgary AB) Starting at 3:00p.m.
