Obituary of Grace Eloise Scotland

1930 –2023

 

Grace Eloise, beloved wife of the late John Andrew “Jack” Scotland, passed away August 12, 2023 at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary after a brief illness, at the age of 92 years.

 

Eloise, renowned for her cooking and baking prowess, and Jack loved to entertain friends from Couples Club, their neighbours and Jack’s work in the oil patch, including Liz and Al Rakach, Al Schwengler and late wife Gloria, Helen Day, and too many more to list here. Eloise and Jack loved you all.

 

Eloise was born on October 21, 1930 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, the eldest daughter of the late Rev. John Lawrence Pottruff and the late Sarah Mabel Pottruff (nee Stutt). She is survived by her sister Helen Hackney of West Vancouver and brother Stutt Pottruff of Calgary, as well as several cousins from the Pottruff family.

 

Eloise and Jack, who lived their entire married life of 50 years in Alberta, had four sons and a daughter, all born in the province. Jack predeceased Eloise in 2002 in Calgary. She is survived by her children, Garry Scotland of Calgary, Randy Scotland (Robert) of Toronto, Dave Scotland (Deb) of Coaldale, Robin Scotland of Cardston, and daughter Rosanne Scotland of Halifax; ten grandchildren, Heather, Stephen, Nicole, Derek, Michael, Keith, Ashley, Amanda, Joy, and Andrew; as well as a growing number of great-grandchildren. Also surviving Eloise are sisters-in-law Alma Scotland of Calgary and Joyce Scotland of Winnipeg, as well as nephews and nieces living in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec.

 

A family service for the internment of ashes will be held at a later date.

 

The family wishes to thank the medical team at Foothills, as well as the staff at Bow Crest Care Centre in Calgary, for their care of Eloise at the end of her life.
