Lawrence Duck

Obituary of Lawrence Everette Alfred Dominic Duck

May 28, 1934 – Ottawa, Ontario

August 23, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorne who passed away peacefully at home. Lorne was the last of a sibling line that included eight brothers and sisters. He was the loyal companion of Jacqueline Anderson for 50 years. Lorne was the proud and loving father of three daughters: Gail Adair (Ken), Karen Duck (late Jim Duggan) and Lynn Drummond (Gerry). He was the loving stepdad of Darlene Anderson (Phil), Jonathan Anderson (Helen), Jeffrey Anderson (Carol) and Jodi Anderson. Lorne was the grandfather to eight and great grandfather to eight as well. He shared a very special bond with his grandson Matthew Anderson.

Lorne lived a good life with strong connections. He was a hardworking man and ingenious with his hands. Lorne was the inventor and patent owner of the “Duck Dolly”. After he retired from an exceptional career as a long-distance truck driver for United Van Lines, he spent his time in his workshop building his dollies, ramps and walk boards. He managed this second career right up until the time of his death.  Lorne was an exceptional man who lived a life of string values that embraced compassion, kindness and acceptance of all fellow beings and animals. He will be greatly missed but forever in our hearts.

Lorne was the man who brought joy into everybody’s life. A man who cared for anybody and anything. He loved his kitty, his kids, and the beautiful world. He liked feeding the squirrels in the morning and would sit on the porch and watch them. He found peace in such small things. Even going for a bike ride made his whole day better. He was one in a million. It was a beautiful life he had and a life that will be treasured.

“I cherish every moment, every lesson, every memory, and every gesture. Being around you, it was like I could do anything. You gave me courage; you gave me confidence, most importantly you brought love into my life. You showed me how to grow into a man, and I will continue to be the man you made me. I am proud to be your grandson, I’m incredibly blessed to have you as a grandpa. You were the dad that I never had, and I thank you for everything. I will make you proud. I love you forever and ever. Farwell to my bestest friend, my hero, my rock, and my dad. – Love Matthew”
