Mabel Mock

Obituary of Mabel Kathleen Mock

December 15, 1932 - High River, Alberta

August 24, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Mabel Mock of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at the age of 90 years.

Mabel was born in High River, AB on December 15, 1932. She moved to Calgary, AB in 1950 to finish her diploma at the Calgary Business School.  Her dream was to become an airline pilot or drive an eighteen-wheeler, but sadly, those opportunities weren’t available to women in 1950.

In 1951 she started working for Farm Electric (a division of Transalta Utilities) and continued in various roles until her retirement as office manager for the Employees Association in 2000. After retirement she sat on the board of TransAlta’s Retiree Association as both president and social director.  In 1998 she started Dial M, her own small consulting business and supported friends and family until 2022.

Mabel married Edwin Mock on April 10, 1954, and he was the love of her life. She was widowed at age 60 when Ed passed away suddenly, and she never remarried.

She loved travelling, gardening, the theatre, playing crib with her friends, baking cookies and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mabel was known for her famous dill pickles, and every August the family would get together for the annual “pickle making day”.  Her record year was 120 quarts.

Her favorite saying was, “I am never bored, life is too short to be bored,” and she lived life to the fullest every day.  She was a bright light, and she will be missed by so many. She loved big and was loved in return.

Mabel is survived by her daughter Kathy (Randy) and; her son Doug; granddaughters, Kara, Nicole (Taylor), Katie (Spencer); and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Riley and Madison.  Mabel is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ventress, her cousins, Len and Marion, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mabel was predeceased by her mother Martha, her father John David, her spouse Ed, her brother Ken and her best friends, Joleen and Sandra.
