Obituary of Alda Maria Njiric (nee Faria)

February 16, 1956 - Rabo de Peixe, Sao Miguel, Portugal

It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of Alda Njiric (nee Faria) on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the age of 67 years old.

Alda was born on February 16, 1956 in Rabo do Peixe, Sao Miguel Azores, Portugal to parents Maria Jose Do Rego and Antonio Faria, and she immigrated with her mother to Canada in 1964.

Alda, having a passion for hair and fashion from an early age, followed her dream and successfully earned her hairdressing licence from Marvel Beauty School in 1974. She continued with her passion right to the final weeks of her life, amounting to a successful career spanning nearly 50 years. Her greatest personal achievement was in the start of her own successful home salon, which gave her much joy in regularly welcoming clients she often referred to as friends.

Second only to her family, Alda's next greatest love was her garden which, every year, never failed to be bright and beautiful for all to enjoy and take pleasure in. She also had a relentless passion for cooking and baking of traditional and local culinary goodies and delights, which always brought tremendous happiness to family and friends alike.

She often spoke of her memorable trips to Florida with Stephen and Ryan, her trip to Montreal with Chris and Jason and, especially most recently, her trip with the entire family to Kelowna just this summer.

Left to mourn her loss are her mother Maria Jose Faria; her four sons, Christopher (Esdrimar), Jason (Nancy), Stephen, Ryan (Vicky); and grandsons Luca, Theo, and Nico; her sister Anita Wald (Mike), her brother Durval Faria; and nephews Michael and Matthew Wald.

Alda was predeceased by her father Antonio Faria and her partner of many years Joseph Mercurio.

Her family would like to thank the nursing staff at Dulcina Hospice for the exceptional compassionate care Alda received while in their care.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6), on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
