Obituary of John Frederick Fisher

November 14, 1957 – London, England

September 29, 2023 – La Spezia, Italy

John Frederick Fisher, 65, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 29, 2023, on the Italian Riviera in the port city of La Spezia.

John was born in London, England, the only child to Fred and Ann Fisher on November 14, 1957. He immigrated to Canada in 1981, where he met his beloved wife and best friend Eileen, (“H”) in 1984, before getting married in 1987. Four years later, John and Eileen had their first child Chelsea in 1991, followed soon after by their second, Graham in 1992. Chelsea was named after John’s loyalty to his Football Club in England, Chelsea FC, while Graham was named after John’s best childhood friend, Graham Ash. John was an extremely proud father, which was evident with all of the cherished time he spent with both kids on the soccer field and on vacations.

John was a successful Engineering Technologist for 35 years, working for several oil and gas companies in Calgary. He also owned a successful business for 14 years, Fisher’s Soccer Shack, with Eileen. He was instrumental in the Calgary Soccer community from 1981 until the time of his death, as both a player and a coach. Coaching was his passion, obtaining his National B License, which granted him the opportunity to coach in high level programs such as Alberta Soccer, Vancouver Whitecaps (Alberta), and numerous clubs around the city. After coaching many players of all ages, hosting multiple Calgary Soccer Federation Banquets and making an impact in the Soccer Community, John was honored with numerous prestigious Soccer Awards, which he found very humbling.

John is survived by his wife Eileen (nee Heslop), daughter Chelsea Megann, son Graham John, and brother-in-law Randy Heslop. He is also survived by cousins in Calgary (Henson family) as well as cousins in the UK (Eyre and Love families). He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ann Fisher, his cousin-in-law Harry Penno, his uncle John Eyre, uncle Chic, and aunt Fay Henson.
