Obituary of Mike Thommy Rasmussen

January 15, 1961 – Calgary, Alberta

October 6, 2023 –Cochrane, Alberta

Mike Rasmussen beloved husband of 35 years to Nancy Johnson (born in Pembroke, Ontario), of Waiparous Valley, AB, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the age of 62 years after 5 months of illness.

Mike graduated from SAIT as a Red Seal Mason, Red Seal Cook and Certified Chef de Cuisine.

He was a member, volunteer and at times on the boards of Calgary Academy of Chefs and Ghost Waiparous Trails Association.

Mike worked as a Stone Mason with his father Ib, Chef, Caterer and in Specialty Food Sales. He and thoroughly enjoyed the culinary world, selling an extensive array of food products to Hotels, Restaurants, and Institutions.

Mike loved parties, cooking, and his pets. He loved talking about food, helping others learn how to create in the kitchen, the adventures he and Nancy would go on occasionally with their beloved Samoyeds and plans for his next outdoor art project or, hand crafted piece of furniture. During the last years of his life, they had driven to Ottawa and back, vacationed at a family cottage on the Ottawa River, enjoyed Puerto Vallarta with friends, skied at Big White, travelled to Tofino and a enjoyed a birthday party in Banff with his cousins from Denmark.

He will be most remembered for his enthusiastic laughter, amazing ability to make all food taste delicious and fun-loving easy-going nature. Mike was one of those people who loved everyone: to talk and listen to anyone about anything.

For those who knew Mike, there will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, October 29th 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This occasion will be held in the Waiparous Valley. Nancy asks that you let her know you wish to attend by emailing her or leaving a message at this site. She will then send you directions to the location of the open house.
