Condolences
I was sorry and saddened to hear about the passing of Scott. He was great friend, one of a kind. They broke the mould after him………and thank goodness!
God, he was a wild one!
I first remember meeting Scott when during a class critique of his, and Hugo’s, illustration work, I heard a CLINK! as a empty beer bottle slowly rolled up to the front of the classroom. Then CLINK CLINK CLINK as more empty bottles, slowly, rolled up to the front of the room to stop at my feet. The class suddenly went quiet, wide eyes and hushes everywhere, except for giggling coming from the back of the room. CLINK again, followed by a loud booming laugh as another bottle rolled up to the front of the classroom. That’s when I met Scott and that great Scottish Laugh!
It's his infectious laugh that I will remember most, he was always laughing. Especially with a crazy Scotsman accent when telling jokes, doing toasts, or his “I can’t Quit You” Broke Back Mountain impersonation. Then the time he jokingly lifting his kilt dramatically up high when anyone passed by Table 49….and he wasn’t even wearing one! We laughed so hard, we cried. And over the years we laughed a lot, a great Scottish laugh.
Even English Dave, aka Diamond Dave Fryer, had never met anyone as crazy Scottish as Scott. During a fishing boat trip with Scott and his cousin on the very VERY deep Glenmore reservoir, Dave asked for a life jacket to wear too. Scott gave him two empty 6 packs to use as water wings! They all had a great Scottish laugh about it, well maybe not Dave.
But jokingly reminiscing aside, Scott was my friend, an artist, a close compadre who I will always cherish the memories we shared, and his absence will be greatly felt by myself, and all who knew him.
May we all raise our glass and celebrate Scott with a “Fill Me To The Parting Glass” Toast:
He may have been a crazy Scotsman, a wild and crazy Scotsman, (say in a Scottish accent) But hee waas the moost FAANTASSTIC SSCOOTSMAN I’VE EVER MET! SLANJ-A-VA
My name is Brad Olson and I want to give my deepest condolences to Scott’s family and friends. I work with Scott at APL and I always joked with him about looking like my good friend in Vancouver so I’d always call him John and always got a good laugh from him when I said that. He was a real good guy kindhearted willing to help you if you needed a hand, he will be deeply missed. R.I.P.
I met Scott while we were students at the Art College. I remember we hit it off right away because we shared the same sense of humor. His way of seeing the world, especially the art world, also squared with mine. We would spend hours doing our projects and sometimes pulling all-nighters in school. He was also the one who first introduced me to British comedy shows, in particular, the "high brow" comedy of Little Britain, we would laughed our heads off. I remember swinging by his apartment and watch countless hours of shows and talking about everything and anything.. It was mostly nonsense, but entertaining all the same.
I still can't believe he's gone. My condolences to Cheryl and Scott's cousins.
I'm gonna miss my friend...
