Obituary of Donald John Morrison
June 20, 1948 – Regina, Saskatchewan
November 5, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with profound sadness that the family of Donald “Don” Morrison, of Calgary, AB, announce his passing on the morning of Sunday, November 5th, 2023, at the age of 75 years after a brief illness.
Don was born on June 20, 1948, to Jacob "Jack" Weimer and Edith (nee Blaser) Morrison of Regina, SK. After Jack's passing in 1952, Don's mother married Lloyd Morrison who became Don's father. Don was raised in Pense, SK, and obtained his degree at the University of Saskatchewan in Engineering Physics (1965-1969). He used this education to work as an IT professional, with the majority of his career being with Shell oil and gas, working in various locations including Edmonton, Toronto, and Calgary.
While attending university in Saskatoon, Don met his first wife and love Sandra (nee Peppler) Morrison. They married in 1969, had one daughter, Alexandra "Alex" in 1982, and were married for 20 years until her passing in 1989. In 1996 and 1997 Don welcomed his second and third daughters, Emily Nicole and Lauren Don. In 2014 while travelling on a Holy Lands tour hosted through the church, Don met his second true love, Carolyn Anderson, and was committed to her until the moment of his passing.
Don will be remembered as a man of integrity who was generous in both his time and talents. He set up and managed all the technology at Advent Lutheran Church. He found joy in assisting many friends with technical issues. He enjoyed travelling, was an avid reader, and loved spending time with his friends and family.
Don is survived by his loving partner, Carolyn Anderson, and his three daughters and one son-in-law, Alex, Emily (Tristen Martin), and Lauren, and was overjoyed with the anticipation of his first grandchild in 2024. He is also survived by his brother Lawrence (Judy Nicholson), and sister Marylee (Brian Lees), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack Weimer, Lloyd Morrison, and Edith (nee Blaser) Morrison, and first wife Sandra (nee Peppler) Morrison.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of the CCU/ICU unit at Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary for their exceptional care and compassion during his final days.
