Obituary of Thomas Kaye Bell

September 29, 1941 - Alliston, Ontario

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Bell, beloved husband of Margery Bell of Calgary, AB, on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the age of 82 years.

Tom was born September 29, 1941, in Alliston, ON, to George and Evelyn Bell. They lived in Bellevue, AB, until 1946, then moved to Coleman, AB, before making Calgary, AB, their home in 1955.

Tom graduated from Western Canada High School in 1960 and joined the Calgary Fire Department in 1962, where he proudly worked for thirty-three years and retired as a Captain in 1995.

Tom married Margery from Banff, AB, in 1962, and they recently celebrated their 61-year wedding anniversary.

Tom enjoyed travelling with his family and friends.  A few years ago, Tom fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting Nashville, USA, with his family. Tom said it was one of the best trips of his life.

Tom’s greatest love was his family and friends.

A special thank you to Dr. Bassyouni for all her years of kindness, care, and support, and to Dr. Eisner and everyone in unit 41 at the Foothills Hospital who cared so much for Tom during his time there.

Tom is survived by his wife Marge, their three children and much-loved grandchildren whom he adored; sister Fran (Orville) Eby, sister-in-law Pat (Ed) Hornett, and their families; and his long-time friend 'Uncle' Jim (Madeleine) Ingram and their family; as well as an aunt, a niece, nephews, cousins and friends. Tom was predeceased by his parents, George and Evelyn.

Tom was a passionate supporter of our veterans, and it seems fitting that he passed on Remembrance Day. May he rest in peace.

A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held at Glamorgan Community Association (4207 - 41st Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
