Obituary of Krishnaswamy Chandrasekaran

In Loving Memory of Krishnaswamy Chandrasekaran

August 5, 1947 - December 8, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Krishnaswamy Chandrasekaran, who departed this world December 8, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Krishnaswamy, known to most as Sekar or Krish, was born August 5, 1947 in Bangalore, India. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a dear friend to many. He lived a life filled with family, travel, careers in many different countries, and unforgettable relationships around the world with people he considered lifelong friends.

In 1970 Krishnaswamy left India for adventure and a career in Berlin, Germany. In 1974 he married Geetha and together in 1976 they welcomed their first son, Muthu. Soon after, they immigrated to Canada and settled in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. In 1981 they welcomed their second son, Arun, surrounded by their close-knit community of friends who had quickly became family.

Krishnaswamy happily worked at Sheritt International (then Sherritt Gordon) for 40 years. He begrudgingly retired in 2017, but Krishnaswamy was never one to sit idle for very long.

In 2019, he and Geetha moved to Calgary to be closer to their sons and their families. It didn’t take Krishnaswamy long to find several jobs to keep himself busy through his retirement. What he enjoyed most was working security at the Calgary Saddledome during the hockey games. He was equally attentive to the score and his duties. Krishnaswamy touched the lives of those around him through his kindness, easy going nature and his love of all things hockey - especially the Edmonton Oilers.

Krishnaswamy Chandrasekaran is survived by his beloved wife Geetha, his two children Muthu (Shelina) and Arun (Rebecca). Krishnaswamy is also survived by the joys of his life, his grandchildren, Indy, Muniya, Zayn, and Jenna.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., December 13th, 2023 at the Calgary Crematorium & Funeral Services, 3219 4th Street NW. Friends and family are invited to attend to pay their respects and share memories.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/m/6533?v2=true)
