Obituary of Jean Isabel Grace Potter

June 20, 1926 – December 26, 2023

POTTER, Jean Isabel Grace (nee Macartney) passed away on December 26, 2023, at the age of 97. Jean was born in Ottawa, Ontario on June 20, 1926. Jean worked for the Bank of Montreal in Richmond, Quebec, and Ottawa, Ontario. She married Allan Potter in Ottawa on June 24, 1950.

She leaves to mourn her daughters Kathy (Neil) Thompson of Ottawa, Carol (Don) Baker of Calgary, Mary (Don) Mustard of Toronto and Janet (Gerry) Vandenbrink of Cranbrook; her sons Andrew (Ying) of Saskatoon and Ken (Judy) of Lanark; much-loved grandchildren Sarah (Chris), Jean (Cary), Allan (Jenny), Jenny (JR), Melissa (Alex), Christine (Ian), Stephanie, Katharine (Joe), Isabel (Matt), Tim (Dyan) and Ethan; great-grandchildren Henry, Charlie, Jack, Luke, Teddy, Julia, Hannah, Walker, William, and Oliver; niece Judy and nephews Dick and Bill.

Jean was active all her life in church work. She was also a Girl Guide leader, Sunday School teacher and always interested in youth work. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic in Victoria for many years as well as Emergency Preparedness in Victoria.

Jean and Allan lived in many provinces in Canada and every move was a new adventure. Jean made friends in each province, on every cruise, on every vacation, in every church and basically, wherever she went. She loved the ocean, mountains, gardening, volunteering, reading, singing, and most importantly, her family. There was always time for her family.

Jean was predeceased by her husband Allan (2012) and her sister Lorna (2002). The passing of Jean leaves a huge hole in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Visitation for friends will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB) on January 14, 2024, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at McInnis and Holloway (Crowfoot Chapel, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, AB) on January 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev Rod Ferguson officiating. Graveside Services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Edmonton on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
