Obituary of Marjorie Umbach

May 20, 1924 - January 2, 2024 

On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, Marjorie Umbach peacefully passed away in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 99 years.

Marjorie was born and educated in Winnipeg where she was employed by the City of Winnipeg and later by C.P.R. before moving to Calgary in 1956 where she was employed by Imperial Oil then a few years later marrying her husband, Eldred Umbach. Both Marjorie and Eldred were avid campers and travelers. They spent two years in Kenya with CIDA, as well as several months in Cartagena, Columbia with CESO. 

Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Eldred; her father and mother, Gordon and Hilda Tovell; four brothers, Charles (Vi), Cecil (Mildred), Albert, Leslie (Elsie); and her beloved sister, Ruth Tovell Eatough (Henry) of Winnipeg. Marjorie was Aunt to many nieces and nephews; as well as to the Umbach family, Judith, Ruth and Gerald. She was also a “chosen” Aunt and Nana to Neal and Kelly Hare (David, Brittany, Shelby and Michael) and Cathy and Max Graham (James, Cassandra, Paige, Jaxon, Marnie, Matt and Malek).
