Hilda Weisgerber of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a short illness and stroke, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the age of 93 years.

Hilda was born in Norton, AB on June 26, 1930. Hilda made it to the Grade nine, as it was the depression era and she had to work on the farm with her parents. She married George Weisgerber in 1964. After marrying, she moved to Regina, SK until the late 60’s. In 1970 the family lived throughout the interior of B.C. for work and ended up in the metro Vancouver area. In 1982, Hilda moved to Medicine Hat for two years, and in 1984 settled in Calgary, where she resided until her passing.

Hilda accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her daughter and grandchildren. She was also proud of herself in older age for coping strongly with a devastating vision loss in 2016. She enjoyed and loved sewing, crafting, playing cards, bingo, doing crosswords, traveling, and spending time with family. Her most memorable vacation was when she took her daughter Valerie to Disneyland when she was fifteen.

Hilda will be most remembered for her sweet kind spirit, generosity   fun personality, love of classy clothing, tenacity to keep going in the midst of extreme health challenges, her big, beautiful smile and unrelenting devotion and love to her family.

Hilda is survived by her daughter Valerie Hilda Hansen and her son-in-law Lowell Hansen, of Las Vegas, NV (and Bremerton, WA); and two grandchildren, Ashlin Elizabeth Hansen (26) of Las Vegas, NV and Spencer Thomas Hansen (30) of Bremerton, WA; as well as her lovely nieces, nephews and friends.

Hilda was predeceased by her parents Alberta and Martha Wutzke of Medicine Hat, AB; her five sisters, Dorothy Jergens, Melva Fauth, Lorraine Fischer, Phyllis Mandi, and Norma Wutzke; and one brother, Lawrence Wutzke. Hilda was also predeceased by spouse George Weisgerber (Divorced) and one son Brian George Weisgerber at two years old.

Hilda’s family would like to extend a special thank you to her niece Linda Lanz and family, niece Betty Starkes, Laura O’sborne, the care team at Walden AgeCare, and the Starbucks team at Walden Heights.

A Private Viewing and Celebration of Life was held by the family at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
