Obituary of John Michael Szczupack

January 24, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness and grief that we advise of the passing of John Micheal Szczupack, Staff Sergeant with the Calgary Police Service, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the age of 65 years.

John is survived by his heartbroken wife Colleen, he is survived by his mother Raymonde, brother and sister-in-law, Renaud and Christine Szczupack, and his nephew and niece, Kevin and Camille, who all reside in Cannes, France. Throughout all of John’s life, he shared a very close relationship with his family overseas, regardless of the distance.

John is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins, who all reside throughout France.  John is especially mourned by his aunt Suzel, and uncle Aime, and cousins, Stephani and Jean-Guy who reside in the village of Marsiyargue, France. In addition, John is survived by several sisters-in-law, their husbands and all their children, who reside in Calgary, AB and throughout BC. John particularly shared close relationships with his sister-in-law Mary-Jo Hunt, and nieces-in-law, Ashley and Jocelyn (Geoff); and nephew-in-law Brydon.

John was predeceased by his father Michel in 2023 and his beloved maternal grandmother Yvone. Our wonderful canine girls, Gwendy and Willow, were there to greet John on his final journey.

John was a serving member of the Calgary Police Service with the rank of Staff Sergeant and was entering into his 39^th year of service at the time of John’s passing. John had wanted to be a police officer since he was a young boy and was so proud to be working for the Calgary Police Service. John had much respect for his sworn and civilian colleagues throughout the service and maintained many friendships over the years.

John was a beautiful man, both inside and out and will be deeply missed by so many.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Szczupack’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in John’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
