Obituary of David John Milne

November 7, 1958 - Calgary, Alberta

February 23, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Dave Milne, beloved husband of Shirley Arnott, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of family, on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the age of 65 years.

Dave was born in Calgary, AB, on November 7, 1958. He graduated from SAIT having completed the Emergency Medical Technician and Advanced Care Paramedic programs. Dave launched his career as an advanced care paramedic in 1984, starting as a paramedic responder with EMS, followed by EMS dispatch. He then transitioned into management of communications for Southern Alberta, later becoming operations manager for A/B platoons. After briefly retiring in 2013, Dave returned to the profession with the Community Paramedic Program, where he performed the first blood transfusion outside of a hospital in Alberta. Dave’s passion and 34 years of dedication to his vocation were respected by his friends and colleagues, and acknowledged with awards for years of service.

Dave and Shirley became life partners in 2001. They created many memories over the years with travels to Mexico, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. Dave’s most cherished moments were always with family. One of the most memorable trips Dave embarked on was sailing the British Virgin Islands with dear friends. Dave’s other passions included skiing, golfing, scuba diving, and listening to music.

Dave leaves behind his wife Shirley, daughter Sydney (Sean) Crowe, granddaughters, Mckinnley and Blakely; son Doug Milne (Chad Pitura), sister Lois Milne (Dave Pow), nieces, Jessica Pow (Ryan, Brynlee, and Sierra Iverach) and Kristen Pow (Rémi Soaré); and extended family.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, Sydney and Ruth Milne; and sister Jayne Milne. Dave lived passionately, loved deeply, and will be missed immensely by family and friends.
