Marie Lau, beloved wife of Dick Lau, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the age of 68 years.
Born on November 21, 1955, in Yorkton, SK, Marie met her future husband while studying at the University of Regina. They married in 1976 and spent nearly fifty years together filled with love. Marie and Dick relocated to Calgary, AB, in 1978.
Marie was an adventurous soul who lived a full and rich life, always with her family by her side. Even when illness struck and she was asked about her bucket list, Marie's response was that she had none; she felt happy, fulfilled, and had already experienced a lifetime of adventure. She traveled extensively around the world, leaving a legacy of exploration and wonderment for her children and grandchildren.
Known for her warmth and hospitality, Marie was the ultimate hostess. Everyone who knew her would attest to her ability to make others feel welcome. This trait was reflected in her and Dick’s dream of one day owning a bar named “Pussy Galore”, after their favorite James Bond character.
Marie brightened the lives of those around her with her strength of character and love. She effortlessly made friends with everyone she met, thanks to her beautiful smile, willingness to help, and ability to bring joy to people’s lives.
Marie had a passion for baking, cooking with her family, gardening, and sewing. She was the mastermind behind decades of Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren. Additionally, she was an avid reader and passed on her love of books to her children.
Marie’s husband, Dick, would not be where he is without her in his life. He wholeheartedly thanks her for her unquestioning support in all his business ventures over the last 47 years. Some of those ventures were riskier than others, but Marie never wavered in her belief in him.
Besides her loving husband, Marie is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Joshua (Jocelyn) of Calgary, AB, and Jacob (Linda) of Calgary, AB; and her three cherished grandchildren, Isaac, Olivia, and Mathilde.
Marie is also survived by her two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie (Harold) Falkenberg of Calgary, AB, and Maxine (Jim) Moore of Humboldt, SK; sister-in-law, Deborah Owens of Calgary, AB, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Marie was predeceased by her brother, Robert (Bob) Owens.
