Obituary of Charlach Rob Douglas MACKINTOSH

MACKINTOSH, Charlach Rob Douglas June 1, 1935 – London, England August 8, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta Charlach Mackintosh beloved father, husband and friend passed away peacefully, aged 84 years. All three of his children were at his side. Charlach was a man who had an enormous love for the outdoors, a passion for adventure and the companionship of English bull terriers. The youngest son of Lady Jean Douglas-Hamilton and celebrated athlete Charles Ernst Whistler (Christopher) Mackintosh, he was raised to embrace the fun of life, and did so throughout his years, with extensive, challenging expeditions around the world. Charlach was a British Army Ski Champion (2nd Battalion Scots Guards), and British Olympian, having skied in both the 1956 Cortina and 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Games. Following his move to Canada, Charlach’s professional path spanned from positions as Risk Manager for Pacific 66, Petro Canada, Alberta WCB Board Commissioner: Chief Commissioner of the Alberta Human Rights & Citizenship Commission; Chairman of Alberta Historical Resources Foundation; President of Canadian Association of Statutory Human Rights. Charlach is survived by first wife Sheila Ellis (nee Walters), their children, Sarah (Stephen), Christopher (Fiona) and Robin; his grandchildren, Emma, Billy, Alexandra, Zoe and Elizabeth; and great-grandchildren, Eliza & Vora. He is also survived by step-children, Kelly Patrick (Sophie), sons, Liam & Thomas, and Katie (Sol) and Katie’s daughter Addison; brother, Douglas Mackintosh (Blu), and extend family and friends. Sadly he was predeceased by his wife Lorraine Mackintosh (nee McCaffery), and sisters; Sheena Hilleary and Vora Shaw Stewart. Funeral Services will be held at Anglican Parish of Christ Church (3602 – 8th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Monday, August 19 at 4:00 p.m. Followed by a memorial celebration of Charlach’s life. At least one bull terrier will be present. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research.
